Products can be added in two ways. Depending on how many products and third party distributors your company has, you can decide which method or combination of methods is right for you.

1. If you have a lot of products and distribution centers, an Excel import for initial setup will most likely make sense. You can create an Excel file template to add new products, and assign distributor item codes, pricing and other attributes for those products by going to Setup > Imports > Products Codes & Pricing. The Import page will allow you to select how many new products you will be adding in the file, and select which distributors you would like to setup item codes for. You can do this in separate steps or in one big file depending on which type of data you have accessible:

** You will want to add your 3rd party distributors and product unit types to the system before you add your products. 

** If you will be synchronizing with QuickBooks or any other 3rd party accounting, you will want your Direct Distributor Codes to match your Item Codes in the accounting software.

** Many vendors do not know what pricing their distributors resell their items for so this is a great opportunity to ask them for their regularly published wholesale prices for your items. Often your buyers or their assistants can supply this information, or you can login via their sales portals and look up pricing. It will be helpful when placing turnover orders, setting up promotion schedules, and maintaining an accurate distribution product matrix. 

2. You can manually add products easily via Setup > Products > Products & Folders:

Click the https://img.turntree.com/knowledgebase/addingProducts2014-02-13_1540.png icon to add a Product or the https://img.turntree.com/knowledgebase/addingProducts2014-02-13_1542.png icon to add a Folder, fill out the information that appears to the right, and save your changes. New products and folders are added to the top level of your company's folders. You can then move products or folders into other folders by checking the checkbox next to an item and then clicking https://img.turntree.com/knowledgebase/addingProducts2014-02-13_1545.png icon next to the target folder.

** Now that your base products are setup, you will need to add distributor item codes and pricing for those products to make them orderable. If you ship direct products and/or samples through QuickBooks or some other accounting system, you will need to add item codes to the Direct distributor.

** To do turnover orders, setup promotions, and manage your distribution matrix, go to Setup > Products > Distributor Codes & Pricing.

Enter the retail unit details (case details are setup via Setup > Products > Distributor Codes & Pricing after the retail unit has been added). Be sure to include full UPC, then click 'Submit':

You can view product Details, Edit, and Inactivate (discontinue) products via the menu to the left of each product name:

Choose 'Product Codes & Pricing' as your Import Type, name your import, and click 'Continue':

The following screen allows you to select how many new products you will be adding and/or which existing products you want to edit. You can also select which distributors you would like to setup or edit. Once done click 'Create Template': 

The template will download to Excel and have 1 sheet for 'Products' and an additional sheet for each distributor you included where you can setup their unique distributor attributes such as codes, wholesale pricing, and case pack/quantities.
